ProBors plan and billing live under the signed-in Settings tab—not buried in checkout emails. The Account section shows your role, billing source, renewal date, and monthly AI credit counters; Plan & billing handles Stripe cancellation, invoice downloads, credit usage meters, subscription checkout, and one-time top-up packs. Use this screen when Chat or Stock analysis warns that credits are low, when you need a PDF invoice for expense reports, or when you want to confirm whether Apple or Stripe bills your membership. This is a product walkthrough, not investment advice.
Quick answer
Sign in at probors.com, click Settings in the dashboard header, and use the section pills at the top: Account for identity, billing summary, credit snapshots, light mode, and marketing email preferences; Plan & billing for subscription status, invoices, usage progress, subscribe buttons, and Buy AI credits packs. Stripe members cancel at period end inside ProBors; Apple-billed plans must be changed in the App Store. Pair credit monitoring with Chat and Stock analysis so AI features do not stall mid-research.
Why billing belongs in your disclosure workflow
Congressional and insider tables are included with a paid ProBors membership, but AI credits power Chat, Research mode, Stock analysis briefs, and related tools. Running out of monthly credits does not delete your watchlists or alert rules—it only blocks credit-consuming actions until the next monthly reset or until you add a top-up balance. Checking Settings once a week (or after a heavy research day) prevents surprise stops when you are verifying a Senate batch or exporting a brief.
| Settings area | What you manage |
|---|---|
| Account → Billing | Billing source (Stripe vs Apple), plan interval, current period end |
| Account → Credits | Monthly remaining, top-up remaining, allowance, last reset |
| Plan & billing → Manage subscription | Cancel at period end (Stripe), App Store note (Apple), AppSumo tier note |
| Plan & billing → Invoices | Status, amount paid, PDF download links |
| Plan & billing → Credits & usage | Balance KPIs, monthly usage bar, next reset time |
| Plan & billing → Subscribe & top-up | Monthly/yearly checkout, coupon field, credit packs |
Alerts and Developer API keys live in sibling sections—see notification preferences and connect Claude to insider data when those are your goal.
Step 1: Read Account before you change plans
Open Settings → Account first. The hero block shows your sign-in email, account role badge, and whether the email is verified.
Scroll to Billing on the same card:
- Source tells you whether Stripe or Apple charges you—this determines where cancellation must happen.
- Plan shows monthly vs yearly interval.
- Current period ends is the date access continues through if you cancel at period end.
Beside billing, the Credits panel lists Monthly remaining, Top-up remaining, Monthly allowance, and Last monthly credits reset. These numbers mirror what Chat uses when it warns about low balance. If monthly remaining is zero but top-up remaining is positive, AI tools can still run until the top-up pool is exhausted.
While you are on Account, toggle Light mode if you prefer a brighter UI during long filing reviews, and adjust Marketing emails if you only want product tips in-app.
Step 2: Confirm subscription status under Plan & billing
Click Plan & billing in the settings nav.
Manage subscription explains the rules in plain language: Stripe plans can be set to cancel at the end of the paid period; Apple plans must be managed in the App Store. If you already scheduled cancellation, a badge shows the date access ends. Active Stripe subscribers see Cancel subscription at period end—access continues until the period end date shown above the button.
AppSumo-tier accounts see a note that deal management happens through AppSumo, not a separate Stripe subscription row. If no Stripe subscription is on file, the card prompts you to subscribe below.
Optional Refer ProBors appears for eligible accounts and links to the affiliate program—separate from disclosure research, but useful if you recommend the tool to colleagues.
Step 3: Download invoices and watch the usage meter
The Invoices table lists invoice number, status, created date, amount paid, and a Download link when Stripe provides a PDF URL. Use this for bookkeeping—not for verifying STOCK Act filings.
Credits & usage aggregates:
- Balance (combined view),
- Monthly remaining and Top-up remaining KPIs,
- A Monthly usage progress bar when allowance data is available,
- Resets with the next monthly credit reset timestamp.
When the bar is nearly full, finish export-heavy Chat threads or buy a top-up before starting a Deep Stock analysis run.
Step 4: Subscribe or add a top-up without leaving the dashboard
The Subscribe & top-up card opens secure Stripe checkout in a new step. Enter an optional Coupon for subscription checkout, then choose Subscribe monthly or Subscribe yearly. Use the same email as your ProBors account when Stripe asks—mismatched emails are the most common reason billing does not attach to the workspace you already use.
Below the plan buttons, Buy AI credits lists one-time packs. Selecting a pack redirects through checkout; purchased credits add to Top-up remaining and spend after monthly allowance is used (exact ordering is reflected in the usage card).
If subscription buttons are disabled in a self-hosted build, the admin may need to configure Stripe price IDs—production at probors.com always ships with checkout enabled.
Step 5: Pair billing checks with research habits
- After a long Research thread, note credits used in the completion footer, then open Settings to see whether monthly or top-up balance dropped.
- Before a weekly disclosure review, confirm alerts still run (billing lapses can affect paid features) and that credits can support any AI summaries you plan to run—see weekly congress disclosure review.
- When ingestion looks stale, check probors.com/status separately; billing status does not replace data-health monitoring.
Common mistakes
- Canceling in the wrong store — Apple-billed members who click Stripe cancel buttons will not stop App Store charges; follow the on-screen App Store guidance.
- Ignoring top-up balance — Monthly allowance may be empty while top-up credits still fund Chat; read both columns on Account.
- Assuming credits reset on calendar month — Use the Resets line on Plan & billing; it follows your subscription cycle.
- Treating invoice dates as filing dates — Invoice created timestamps are unrelated to STOCK Act transaction or filing dates.
FAQ
Where do I cancel if I subscribed through Apple?
Open Settings → Plan & billing. When Source shows Apple, ProBors displays App Store instructions instead of a Stripe cancel button. Manage the subscription in iOS or macOS App Store subscription settings.
What happens to my watchlists if I cancel at period end?
Access continues until the current period ends date on Account. After that, paid features stop according to your plan terms; export any research you need before the date. Watchlist data policies are described in the product terms at checkout.
Do AI credits roll over month to month?
Monthly allowance resets on the schedule shown under Credits & usage. Top-up packs add to a separate Top-up remaining balance; treat top-ups as a buffer for heavy research weeks.
Can I upgrade from monthly to yearly inside Settings?
Use Subscribe yearly on the Plan & billing card when you are ready to switch, or email support from the cancellation flow if you see a yearly save offer. Yearly pricing is listed on the public pricing page before checkout.
Does Developer API access require a separate bill?
Developer API keys are managed under Settings → Developer API on eligible paid plans. Billing for the core membership and API beta access share the same subscription row on Account—see the Claude connection guide for capability details.
Keep credits and billing visible
Sign in to ProBors, open Settings → Plan & billing, and confirm subscription and credit balance before your next Chat or Stock analysis session.
